Guys, I've converted the old forum to SMF forum.
For those who visited this site yesterday, you will notice some of the threads are gone. That's bcoz after the converting experience yesterday, I did another fresh conversion today. Yesterday I need to skip some threads due to conversion errors but I know how to handle them in the 2nd conversion so the posts/threads conversion is almost 100% if not 100%.
H/w, I notice SMF forum lack the grp leader function which I wanted, ie I'm able to appoint new leaders of COK guild to manage guildie access w/o giving them admin rights. SMF forum oso dun separate user titles from use grps, end up the old kakis grp was spread to diff sub-grp based on post count. Worse, I can't delete user grp and dump users to the newly created Kakis grp, which means I have to manually edit 600-700 members to the Kakis grp, argh! While SMF settings are simple, I find it lacks on certain features so I'll try to convert it to myBB (I think phpBB forum is too complicated for a simple friendship community, I dun need that kinda complicated settings).
Good thing is that unlike previously I can't find any converter for IPB1.3.1 forum, now SMF forum is a newer version so the myBB converter can convert directly from SMF. The bad thing is that I will have to re-setup all the user grps, titles, permissions etc. In the mean time, users may encounter some issues as the settings are abit messed up after the 1st conversion (from IPB > SMF) and I expect more issues to pop up when I do the 2nd conversion (from SMF > myBB). Pls give me 1 week or 2 to resolve all these issues, thanks.
PS: The conversion only convert users and posts, it may not and probably won't convert PM, attachments, uploads (eg avatars), signatures, user profile (since diff forum s/w has diff profile fields for users). I guess these are minor issues as long as user database and posts are still available.
