Quote: Bro office blocked gaming websites....can cut and paste here? Lol

P.S I am lazy to unblock and ppl will see what and where I am surfing. Ph34r
Get a freaking SSH setup. Then surf any site to your hearts desire. Just don't mess up the keyboard.

How's the witch elf now compared to 4-5 months back?
It's the firewall block list as it's under game cat. I can exempt the site but lazy and don't want ppl in office to notice I am surfing game sites lah
I think Zan is refering to Hotspot surfing using free/paid private VPN/proxy servers. Where u uses the other site of the IP addressing , anon etc. Its uncensored, unblocked and totally Free to go anywhere , anytime... like a birgin...
Not so much as the Secure Shell per say.
No, I meant using an SSH and route browser traffic thru it to an anon Squid proxy or Socks5 proxy which allows DNS resolution done remotely. SSH should be encrypted... so I think should be able to beat whatever firewall policy the company has?

I can access the sites I want despite nameserver blocking and whatever the Great Firewall of China does so far.

Either thru VPN or thru SSH tunneling with Socks5/Squid proxy on other end. Mine are paid ones. Better quality and you can choose from their network of servers internationally.
ya, thats what i meant.
SSh or and SSL are security cryto protocol. on its own it does not route , tunnel or proxizes.
btw, we have a kakis here tahts an expert cryptographer . (u know who u r !)

example of paid proxy;
http://www.identitycloaker.com
(with VPN servers)

example of paid VPN tunnelling
https://ssl.alwaysvpn.com/

some free:
http://www.alonweb.com/
http://anchorfree.com/ ( slow and not good)

they are "free" proxy out there. or even go "hijacked" ones.
you gotta change and switch free proxies when one is down.
free proxy might be compromised private servers.or even "honeypotted" by identity thieves.
back then, you can use Google certain site to use it as a free proxy. using the iframe bugs.
There is a even a chinese free proxy server. forgetten the name liao. used it once and it slow but does it job.

end of the day. pay for a private proxy/vpn tunneling is a better choice.
Yup, paid ones are "safest" and certainly most reliable speed-wise.
Thanks for the links!

I'm using http://perfect-privacy.com/ right now.
It's expensive but very good. Servers in many places.
SSH/VPN/Socks5/Squid all available

I might change to a cheaper option though in future as 25Euros a month is kinda expensive. The good thing is its unlimited bandwidth. That's quite useful when certain torrent trackers block Chinese ips. But most work fine with direct connection lah. So can save $ and just use it for web surfing.
By the way, don't mean to take this further off-topic.
But I would appreciate even more such VPN/SSH tunnel links. Those ideally that you guys know are reliable or good or heard good stuff about.
Looking at all options! :P
Thanks!
I think hotspot anonymous surfing via proxy or VPN tunnelling is not common here.

25 euro per mth is high.
check these 2 out.

http://www.strongvpn.com/

http://www.linkideo.com/sign-up

StrongVPN looks good. seem like you can do port forwarding even

I run a SSL VPN on a 2gb corporate lease line and lots of site r not block.
And I have not tested any of those paid site b4.

additional recommended tool:
http://www.geoiptool.com/

enjoy!
Thanks Bibi.
I did google Strongvpn before but wasn't sure if its good.
Same for Blacklogic vpn.

Thanks for the IP locator.
I'm using IP2location.com currently.. pretty similar.
Then I test the proxies with one of those anon proxy testers keke for final bit.

I used to use opendns.com servers but now they are sometimes unreliable in China. I think they're taking action against it as it allows bypassing their censored dns servers and dns cache poisoning etc.

What I will miss about perfectprivacy is their VPN/SSH/etc server in Hong Kong.
That is one beast of a server when you are in China. Bloody fast and good bandwidth! They also have server in M'sia and Australia though those 2 aren't as good for me speed-wise. For SG maybe better,

Most other services don't have one in HK. Mostly in US or Europe.
Better do my Mod job before Ziltus really chops me into a "Zadon" for going super off-topic.
oh ya ..u r in china.so HK servers should be the way to go.

In singapore is direct USA west coast da best .for singtel lines i suppose.
Actually here to US also not that bad.. 200 to 300 ms pings.

I average across 3 tries:
210ms (20hops) to Los Angeles
270ms (17hops) to Chicago.
Montreal 280ms (15hops)

Which one should I use? Or do the pings to each server on the route matter more? Me no network expert! Got advice? Pervert

Well other than Hong Kong that is.. which is 70ms over 16hops.
Wah your talked till got heaven and dragon I catch no ball...not good in those Lol
LA west coast are good for SIngapore too.
210 ms is decent.
70ms , i'll stick to HK if i were you.

Im no expert too. mainly thru experience. so i stand corrected.
For video streaming i think 200ms is ok.
using Voip , if it hits 400+ms. then the delay is too long.
go try Hulu and see if those vid comes smooth and fast.
I catch no ball also ...

But I wanna learn! Devil
Quote: I catch no ball also ...

You want to learn how to catch balls? Huh
OMG! The Great Firewall of China has blocked Youtube.com!
WTF for ???
Only realized it when clicking on Naboo's FAIL link.

Good thing I have lots of proxies ready. Lol
I went to signed up for Strongvpn just to play play abit.

to my atonishment. i found that torrent is faster via US westcoast.hitting 200+kps !
That means our ISP here are throttling P2P.
I do know for a fact that Starhub throttle P2P(they spill the beans over a documented interview last year). Now it seems like Singnet also got into the act.

I check out Hulu.com , we can access the website here(singapore) but cannot see the video becos of regional copyrights. I was able to view and stream HD video of 1 hour+ movies smoothly, once you let it buffer for 2-3 mins.

ABC.com comes in smoothly for the 5th season of Grey's Anatomy too :D

*disclaimer.
P2P , torrent for LEGALISE apps download...ya whatever.
Bibi,

Yah, i forgot to mention that.
Torrents DO work better over encrypted channels from my experience in Singapore.
I could pretty much max out my connection with Utorrent then.

In China, it's unnecessary as they don't do throttling here. But useful when some trackers block Chinese IP. Probably only one tracker does that. But it's one of the biggest ones.

I only torrent GNU GPL stuff too btw! Lol

PS. Can you test the ping on their West Coast servers and let me know if you find the time? Thanks!
ping ICMP packet is useful for connectivity round trip and speed test.
for the "thickness and flow of the pipe" ,U might wanna try out the bandwidth test:
http://strongvpn.com/locations.shtml
turn off your antivirus apps or it will not run proper.

I have better results from Fisco SF-1. hitting 2,419 kbps(down)

do note that for StrongVpn services. they only allow up to 3 changes of server per month. U pay a fee above that 3 moves /mth quota.

Wow "thickness and flow of the pipe" sounds so... Pervert

I got similar results on all 3 locations for the test page you posted from strongvpn. About 700kbps from here... on a line that I estimate the max to be 1,200kbps (shared line).

Using speedtest.net, I managed to hit 1.3mbps. Which is about right.

Wah only 3 changes?? That sucks! One should be allowed to connect to whichever server he likes anytime right? Why so complex?

I don't understand the restrictions. I can connect to ANY perfect privacy server anywhere in the world any day and even different times of the day. All the server ips and ports and services are listed. I just configure the login software myself. God damn.. I love this service but its damn expensive in the long run for just this purpose.

But 3 changes only is kind of a booboo for me. Not to mention no HK server arrghh! Sigh.

ps. Do they just have SSH/Proxies alone if I want the flexibility sometimes?
this article in thier forum on proxies:
http://strongvpn.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=347
some good questions posted by users and enquirers in there

I do not know what type of encryption with Point-to-Point Tunneling Protocol (PPTP) they are using on the 128bit
However, im sure there are not using SSL or IPsec/L2TP
I signed up for strongvpn.com's OpenVPN service. S$20 a month is much cheaper than my previous S$50 a month at perfectprivacy.com. But you really get what you pay for lor. :(

I signed up.. got a San Francisco account set up for me... started using and already got issues. Ping was bad for some reason hitting as high as 400+ms. I also saw error messages like this below.

Quote:Thu Apr 16 02:36:11 2009 us=406000 FRAG TTL expired i=21
Thu Apr 16 02:36:16 2009 us=765000 FRAG TTL expired i=9
Thu Apr 16 02:36:16 2009 us=765000 FRAG TTL expired i=12
Thu Apr 16 02:36:36 2009 us=984000 FRAG TTL expired i=0
Thu Apr 16 02:36:41 2009 us=31000 FRAG TTL expired i=13
Thu Apr 16 02:36:41 2009 us=31000 NOTE: --mute triggered...
Thu Apr 16 02:42:45 2009 us=328000 21 variation(s) on previous 5 message(s) suppressed by --mute
Thu Apr 16 02:42:45 2009 us=328000 Replay-window backtrack occurred [2]

I had NEVER seen these FRAG TTL messages before on Perfect Privacy's openvpn service and strongvpn is giving me lots of these. Even affecting my surfing experienec on some sites cos the page would reset or something. Any network expert here can tell me what's wrong?

Lastly, I noticed they had a new server in Canada and I have had good pings on those (approx 200) on my old provider so I switched servers. And the ping improved and speed overall better but still get those error messages.

So i opened a post on their forum.. they asked me submit support ticket. Next thing you know, my a/c has been suspended so that they can do testing or some shit.

WTF!

Holy mama!
I better go get some raisin loving and enjoy more massages first before they drag me screaming out of here!
I heard after Obama took over, the torture sequence is changed:

(1) Let you play online game with a mouse only and no keyboard.
(2) Let you watch endless photos of Amy Winehouse.
(3) Put you as the CEO of AIG.

Be prepared to suffer, my friend.
i'm guessing your issue might be the client software the Open acct uses
maybe u wanna try out the regular acct ?
Im on regular. and u need only to configure the windows network connection. you can also configure that on your router side and have the whole gin gang on the network goes on the VPN.

currently my D/L is sooo fast I can get Blu-ray content within 24 hr.

amy drughouse ? :jawdrop:
AIG ... Surrender

Bibi,

No leh. I used OpenVPN in the past too for Perfect Privacy without any issues at all. Oh well, will keep an eye on things.

So fast? Good for you. Will get a new broadband set up in August. Hope its good then!
After my StrongVPN expires, I'll be going back to Perfect Privacy.
Superior package and better quality connection of the 2.
Price wise it will be better too if compared to StrongVPN's new "Premium" package which still loses out to PP's normal package.

My vote has been cast!
Wah, really catch no ball...Lol

Anyway, just to ask, does that means that if my office intranet block game sites, I can apply for these vpn stuffs, login and use them to access all the blocked sites (ie to coy intranet, they can only see I login to this "legal" site but didn't know that thru this "legal" site I'm accessing "illegal" stuffs)?
