Hi all,

The offical DDO link is - http://www.ddo.com

Based on the reviews and I have spoken with Andrew from PacNet (he is testing DDO now), there is a big difference between DDO and other MMORPG like EQ2, WoW and DAoC.

DDO is more toward traditional PnP D&D then to those typical MMORPG. Thus, this game will be more suitable to casual player than power gamer.

In addition, unlike other MMORPG, you will gain XP by just killing mobs after mobs. You gain XP by completing quests.

There is one major concerned about DDO is, whether Turbine is able to keep up with the generation of new quests since XP are awarded through questing. Atm, they have like about 130+ quests.
Just saw this link to download the D&D Online Client Install from Turbine. You'll still need the beta/retail code to get it to work though. 1.6GBs

DDO Client Install
Hmm..strange. After downloading and installing, I can't get it to patch. Keep getting stuck at the 2nd step, "Examining Program".

I still haven't got my beta account yet so I can't check out the beta forums for help. Anyways, the link I posted above may not be the actual download link, therefore the client may not patch at all. I got it off the DDO public forums.

Caveat Emptor :)

Happen to me when I was playing the 10 day beta. Normally what I do was, I close the DDO client and restart it again. Sometime I will restart my PC just in case to clear up those residue.
Doesn't work leh...I still keep getting update error

Read from forum, seems like the beta servers were down.

Anyway, my beta account has already expired. :(
the gfx seems pretty gorgeous eh?

To me, the gfx can't really compare with EQ2 and other new MMORPG. Character customization cannot compare with SWG. The female toon looks more nicer than the male toon.

In fact, I noticed it is much easier to adventurer in DDO with low gfx setting. It is becos with lower gfx, you will be able to locate those "hidden" switch/valve under the water much easier. :P With high gfx setting, it is much harder to locate those hidden switch/valve with all the gfx features enable.

Game play should be fine for most of us as my 8 yrs old son, Marcus, is able to play the game without much problem.

The DUNGEONS & DRAGONS ONLINE™: Stormreach™ team would like to thank the Beta community for all of their assistance and feedback in guiding our game development, finding and fixing bugs and for helping us run a great Beta program. As we wrap up the Beta and get ready for retail release, we wanted to let you know our plans.

We will be ending the Beta Program on February 10, 2006 for non-preorder customers. On this date, we will be closing the Orien and Kundarak servers.

After February 10, Beta will continue for preorder customers on a new server called Vadalis, which is opening after the February 2 downtime. In order to take advantage of the full preview period, new 10-day preorder Beta accounts should start their characters on this server.

In order to play in the Beta after February 10, you must have preordered the game, registered your 10-day Beta key, set up your account on Vadalis, and still have time remaining on that Beta account.

If you are currently participating in the Beta and have not preordered, now is the time! Not only does preordering get you into the remainder of Beta, it also gets you in the game early at launch and a +1 Armor Class amulet! Preorder your copy and start playing on Vadalis!

* 10-day Beta pass entitles holder to free admission into the preorder Beta program for up to 10 days, subject to continuation of the program (scheduled to close February 19, 2006) and network and server availability.
Turbine say they are doing combat "differently". How's it different?
Harry may give u a better description but from what I understand, there are 2 components to combat.

The first component is the standard D&D system based on die rolls and armour class and all sorts of modifiers.

The other is the player skill component. When u press your attack button, an attack animation (like swinging your sword) will play. You have to make sure your swing physically connects with your target. Only then will the first component of die rolls be made to determine if you actually damaged your target.

So your target (or yourself) can actually evade attacks by moving away from attacker.
so the "live" swinging and targetting is actually more or less real-time? Hmmm, seems a bit like twitch games.
That is correct.
I guess a number of people got into the open stress test where you can register from Tuesday, February 7 from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. EST. I got an email from Turbine saying that. :P So that will be Feb 8, Wed, 9-11am
