DoF is the first expansion for EQ2. Very impressive. The above movie very cool, featuring scaling walls, more transparent zoning (i.e. no zone doors), and arena fighting. Basically in PvP arena, you will turn into the monster of your choice and duke it out. Must watch the movie!
Maj'Dul is the main city in the expansion. Desert-arabian like theme featuring 3 factions. The faction system is kinda like EQ1 and you have to fight your way to earn the favor. So there will be full open combat zone with 2 of the other factions when you are already aligned with one.
At the Fan Faire 2005, I had a hands-on play on DoF. Quite fun. The new place very interesting, the art also quite rich. 1 thing about DoF that there are around 5 new zones, and because of the no zone doors, the zones really feel very huge. The wall scaling is also very cool, it takes zone heights to a different level. The devs also showed us a raid x4 L45 mob - giant .... tarantula.
overall impression
SOE done a lot of good stuffs. Of course everyone will get to L60 pretty quickly. The devs did hint that a kind of AA system will be introduced. But they don't want it to be like EQ's AA system so that is still in drawing board process.
Look forward for the first EQ2 expansion this coming September...
